Roy is in town!

This week our friend Roy Marin is in town from Chicago for a visit. On Thursday night we took him to the Upright Citzens Brigade Theater in Hollywood for an evening of laughs. The show, The Benson Interruption, hosted by Graham Elwood, and featuring comics Andy Kindler, Mary Lynn Rajskub, and Bil Dwyer. Basically the 3 comics attempt to perform their stand-up routine, but can and will be at any moment, interrupted by Graham. During this show the comics got a kick out of the crazy lady in the back who kept shouting out, "What is your favorite color?" We got a kick out of it, too.

Pacific Crossroads Church Small Group BBQ!

To continue with Memorial Day week, our small group decided to have a bbq instead of discussing a chapter from the book we're going through. Bill and Liz hosted an evening of delicious foods like guacamole and chips, grilled chicken, assorted salads, tiramisu for dessert, and champagne with fruit! All of our group was there with the exception of one couple, which is a pretty good record!

L to R: Jenie and Dennis, Liz and Bill, Jenny and Tyler, Lea and Ben, and Colleen and Tony (and Chester, too.).  Not pictured Peilin and Chris, Elize and Aaron.

Hanging out by the gas bonfire after dinner.
The yummy champagne and fruit cocktails.
Everyone chowin' down.
Looking down from the top tier of their back yard onto Tyler and Bill sharing grilling techniques.
The awesome view of Los Feliz.

beach bonfire!

So a bunch of us got together last night for a beach bonfire.  It was totally Jaws meets Karate Kid (minus the shark attacks and fights over boom boxes).  Karly, Mike, Elizabeth, Matt, Keith, Todd, Roger, Hector, and us Smiths all gathered round for hot dogs and smores on sticks.  It was a little chilly in the 50s, but the fire was toasty.  I love it when my hair still smells like firewood the day after.

JAWS!

Last night Tyler and I saw Jaws on the big screen at the Arclight with our good friends, Chris and Robert.  (thanks Robert for the awesome suggestion!).  So this makes #2.  For those astute, yes: so far we have serendipitously gone in order of Tyler's favorite movies with Citizen Kane and now Jaws.  Best part of the big screen experience: the clapping (and the awesome AFI print of course).

We got a Leopard!

Our old Mac had been fussy for a while now and yesterday we had had enough.  So out with the old and in with the new.  We purchased the new iMac.  Some great new qualities like an awesome keyboard that I am using this instant, for one.  But I have to say that it's such a pain starting over, reorganizing your computer to make it your own.  And it didn't even come with Quicken (a feature of our old model).  I feel like computers should just add perks, not take away ones that you were used to.  I guess I shouldn't be complaining about my brand new computer, though.  Sorry.

Mini City Walk: Thrid Street Promenade

Last night Tyler and I were itching to get out of the house and hit the town on a Friday night.  So Tyler suggested the Third Street Promenade, a Mag Mile of Los Angeles if you will, in Santa Monica.  We strolled through the streets, window shopping and watching street performers and musicians.  We bought Tyler a new addition to his collection of Riddler action figures at Puzzle Zoo, where we hit the jackpot of choices of the action figure.  Now I know where to go for holidays or surprises for him.  We ate some dinner at Wolfgang Puck, and spoiled our appetite for the thing we went there for: gilato.  Neither of us have ever tried it, and on a 104ยบ day, we wanted to.  Oh well, next time when we hit the TSP for the card in our City Walks Tour.

Mother's Day: Baby Dedication and The Melting Pot

Tyler's uncle lives down in Orange County, and he and his wife, Christine, just had their first baby boy, Samuel Patrick Dean on December 31, 2007. They had him dedicated at their church, Cypress Evangelical Free Church, this Mother's Day, and invited Tyler and I down to celebrate with them. And celebrate we did! With a four-course meal at The Melting Pot, a fondue restaurant. It was more than just eating out, it was an experience! Thanks Jeff and Christine (and Sam) for a wonderful day!

In honor of Mother's Day...

Barbara and Debra, we love you. Sorry we couldn't be with you on Sunday. We appreciate everything you've done and do and will ever do for us. Love, Jenny & Tyler

Disneyland: again (duh!)

Yes, we went again. I though y'all would be more worried that we hadn't been in a while. Gotta get our money's worth before June 9 when our passes expire (and we inevitably renew them for next year).
